Sound Mind TMS & Ketamine Therapy is proud to offer the latest in mental health treatments. In addition to high levels of safety standards and patient care, Sound Mind utilizes ketamine infusion therapy for the treatment of fibromyalgia.
Ketamine infusions have proven to be a powerful and rapid treatment for neuropathic pain and other chronic pain conditions.
Ketamine is an inspiring treatment option because in some cases it can provide relief from symptoms within days or even hours. Traditional treatments for fibromyalgia can sometimes take weeks or even months before symptom relief.
Ketamine for chronic pain offers a rapid and robust treatment for the symptoms of fibromyalgia, with up to 75% of patients reporting a positive response after a single treatment.
IIt is believed that the main cause of chronic pain is due to an overactivity of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor in the brain. Ketamine helps the condition by attaching to the NMDA receptor and blocking it from being activated by glutamate, a neurotransmitter, thereby helping to mute the effects of chronic pain symptoms. By connecting to those receptors, ketamine may be able to amplify the number of glutamate neurotransmitters in the space between neurons in the brain.
Glutamate then interacts with the AMPA receptors. Together, these receptors bring about the discharge of multiple molecules that boost the brain’s neuroplasticity – essentially, ketamine infusions allow the brain to reset and restore important nerve connections.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that is known to cause widespread pain and fatigue with no apparent underlying cause. Symptoms can begin to appear after an injury or physical trauma.
