  • Childhood and teen years on the Original Smith Farms learning traditions of family farming and country cured meats.
  • St. Paul's Lutheran School, Cullman High School Class of 1973, Samford University, UAB School of Medicine, 
  • Competition of Family Practice Residency at St. Vincent's East Medical Center
  • Diplomate of American Board of Family Medicine since 1987
  • Clinical Family Practice of 25 years in Blount and Cullman Counties and in Hawaii
  • Maintenance of Certification in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Saving), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Live Saving) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Saving)

  • Married to Jan Dean Smith for 36 years and father of 8 children
